Laurent Bécot Ruiz
Laurent Bécot Ruiz is of French and Peruvian descent. Before moving to France, his childhood is spent living on the island of Réunion in the Indian Ocean. In 2010, he begins his career as a photographer, shooting portraits, architectural structures, and documentaries. By 2018, he also starts work as a painter.

ーWhat is the theme behind the paint series you have provided for the SOWER tags.
L： For the Sower tags series, I wanted something infused with intensity and lots of energy.
I used only raw pigments to obtain an organic and very mineral result. So it appears like jewelleries, associated with something that lasts. In general, I prefer garments that last, I seek beauty. Somehow, I was searching for combinaisons of chakras energy’s colours.
ーSOWERのタグに提供したペイントシリーズのテーマを教えてください
ローラン：Sowerのタグシリーズでは、強さとたくさんのエネルギーを表現したかったのです。 私は、チャクラのエネルギーを表す色の組み合わせを探していました。 私はいつも、有機的な色や輝きを求めて、石など自然のものを砕いた生の原料を使用しています。それはまた、長持ちするものを連想させます。服についても、私は長く着られるものが好きですし、長く愛用するからこそ美しさを求めます。
ーThe beauty of all the colors such as the blues, greens, reds in your paintings are clearly illustrated. Can you tell us why you selected those colors, what was your thought process and feelings behind the colors chosen.
L：Colours definitely have an influence and an energy. For my collaboration with Sower, I channelled the theme of Nature, along with the sustainability behind an ethically-produced fabric. Something that gives us courage and energy to build our new world, with more consciousness, awareness of how nature is beautiful, precious and has to be very cared for.
And so, appeared Green and Blue. Blue for spirituality and the colour of the light through the space - that refers to sky and water. Green for the colour of life, confidence, love - that refers to plants and heart. Resulting in the melting Blue-Green, dual concept.
ー青、緑、赤など、色の美しさが際立っていますね。色を選んだ背景とは？
ローラン：Sowerとのコラボレーションでは、自然というテーマと、エシカルに生産されたファブリックの背後にある持続可能性を表現しました。自然がいかに美しく、貴重で、大切にしなければならないかということを意識する必要がありますし、私たちが未来を築くために、自然こそが勇気とエネルギーを与えてくれるものだと思います。ブルーはスピリチュアリティと空間を照らす光の色で、空と水を意味します。生命、自信、愛の色である緑は、植物と心を表しています。その結果、２つのコンセプトが溶け合うようにブルーとグリーンが生まれました。そして、私の筆運びは、最近発見した侘び寂びの哲学からの影響を受けています。
ーWhat is the most important thing to you when you create your works?
L：The most important thing when I paint is to be the most “right here-right now” as possible. Also, to be enthusiastic, to play with elements, to keep in mind all the possibilities to be happy and joyful. I want to share that vibe, that wave, so people who see my paintings can feel through this meditation something that shines a light on them, or even starts a “healing process” within themselves.
ー作品を制作する際に最も大切にしていることは何ですか？
ローラン：絵を描くときには、できるだけ「今、この瞬間」を大切にしています。また、熱中することや要素で遊ぶこと、そして、すべての幸せや喜びの可能性を心に留めておくことです。 絵を見ることは瞑想に通じるところがあると思いますし、観る人には、自分に光を与えてくれるものや自分の中の「癒しのプロセス」を感じてほしい、そのムードを共有してほしいと思っています。
ーAlong with painting, you also take photographs. Is there a difference in expression between photography and painting?
L：With both disciplines, my goal is the same: to invite people to contemplate and realise how beautiful and spectacular Nature is. I have photographed so many different things that now compose a big collection. Everything is linked. I have always been fascinated by the infinitely big and the infinitely small, all the patterns of the Universe. With painting, I love to see things closer, to observe them with more attention and play with the beauty of nature and elements.
ー写真と絵画の表現に違いはありますか。
ローラン：どちらでも私の目的は同じです。それは、人々に自然の美しさや壮大さについて考えてもらい、気づいてもらうことです。 これまでさまざまなものを撮影してきたので、今では大きなコレクションになっています。すべてが繋がっています。私はいつも、無限に大きいもの、無限に小さいもの、森羅万象に魅了されてきました。絵画では、物事をより近くで見て、より注意深く観察し、自然やそれらを構成している要素の美しさと戯れるのが好きなのです。
ーBesides painting and photographing, what enriches you?
L：I’ve moved out of Paris and relocated to a near-forest-house, or should I say forest-river. My garden-kitchen has become a great companion of patience. And, of course, my main inspirations are my son and my life partner.
ー絵画や写真以外に、あなたを豊かにするものは何ですか？
ローラン：パリを離れて森の中に引っ越しました。特に庭は、粘り強く作品と向き合うときの大切な友人のようでもあります。そしてもちろん、私の主なインスピレーションは、息子とパートナーです。
ーWhat kind of things do you want to paint or photograph in the future?
L：Within an evolving research, the philosophy behind my work remains the same: to express a language of colours and forms that bring peace and stimulate curiosity. Amongst my upcoming projects, are big-format paintings for beautiful galleries around the world, collaborations with fashion/furniture designers and creators, decorators and artists.
Perhaps, some sculptures.
ー今後、どのようなものを描きたいですか、または撮りたいですか？
ローラン：私の作品の背後にある哲学は変わりません。平和をもたらし、好奇心を刺激する色と形という言語を表現することです。 今後のプロジェクトとしては、世界中の美しいギャラリーのために大判のペインティングを制作したり、ファッションや家具デザイナー、クリエイター、装飾家、アーティストとのコラボレーションなどがあります。 おそらく、彫刻にも挑戦することとなるでしょう。
